At the end of 2025, we visited the Moskvarium and saw a large chameleon there. It immediately caught our attention with its unusual appearance. Now I want to share a few interesting facts about these amazing animals.
Chameleons are lizards that mostly live in warm countries. Many species live on the island of Madagascar and elsewhere in Africa.
Chameleons are famous for their ability to change their skin colour. But they do not do this only for camouflage. Their colour can change because of temperature, lighting, mood or communication with other chameleons.
One of a chameleon’s most amazing features is its eyes. They can move independently of each other, allowing the chameleon to look in different directions at the same time. Imagine what you could see if you could do that too!
Chameleons have very long, fast tongues. When a chameleon spots an insect, its tongue shoots forward at lightning speed and catches the prey.
Many chameleons can grip branches with their tails, almost like using an extra hand. Their feet are also very well adapted to life in trees.
Chameleons mainly eat insects, but larger species can also eat other small animals.
The chameleon is an amazing animal with an unusual appearance, incredible eyes and one of the fastest tongues among reptiles. You can look at the photos of this wonderful chameleon.
If you would like to see a chameleon with your own eyes in Baku, you can visit the Jumanji children’s hair salon in White City. There is a large terrarium where a chameleon lives. I love watching it when we go there for my haircut.
Once, I was even lucky enough to feed it a huge live cockroach! The chameleon’s name was Ricky. He was already old and eventually died. Now a new, young chameleon lives there, and he has also been named Ricky. So come and see this amazing creature!
